About

    1. About *Synechocystis* sp. PCC 6803

cyanobacterium and an inhabitant of fresh water. This strain is naturally transformable by exogenous DNA, and has been one of the most popular organisms for genetic and physiological studies of photosynthesis because of the capability of growth heterotrophically at the expense of glucose.

The sequences of large sized extra-chromosomal units were completely determined in 2003. The accession numbers are as follows: AP004310 for pSYSM, AP004311 for pSYSA, AP004312 for pSYSG, and AP006585 for pSYSX. The data for

sequences and the annotation that were reported by Yang *et al.*, Xu *et al.*, and Kaneko *et al.*.
